Energizing community giving

Talk with a PBG employee who delivered Thanksgiving dinner to hospitalized veterans. Or listen as another one describes pounding nails for Habitat for Humanity. You’ll quickly learn that the company’s cash and in-kind contributions to nonprofits, which exceeded $16 million in 2007, are magnified many times over by the hands-on impact that PBG employees are making in their communities–one by one by one.

As the following stories describe, PBG has developed a culture of community giving that extends far beyond financial contributions. The company actively encourages employees and retirees to give their communities something even more valuable than money–their time and talent. In any given week, somewhere in a PBG market, an employee or team is working to enhance a neighborhood, strengthen a family or improve a life. PBG supports this involvement with financial grants. For example, employees volunteering their time to local nonprofits can earn those organizations grants of up to $2,500 from The PBG Foundation, the official community giving arm of PBG.

On the national level, when PBG donates money directly to an organization, the company still looks for opportunities to help at the grassroots level. Market by market, deed upon deed, PBG employees are quick to step forward with the same passion and determination they bring to their jobs and their customers. They know that one person can bring about change, and helping one person means changing a world. It takes energy, but for PBG employees it’s the kind of energy that should never be conserved.
